Getting into Christmas Mood

Ainda não tive tempo para tratar das decorações de Natal (Uma vergonha, bem sei.) e talvez por isso ainda não esteja propriamente envolvida no espírito natalício.

Para tentar reverter a situação, resolvi fazer o que sempre adoro fazer quando necessito de inspiração: ir ao Tumblr e ao Pinterest. 

Se há coisa que adoro é inventar e criar, pelo que, todos os anos, faço um ou outro trabalho manual. Há tanta coisa gira para fazer! Árvores de Natal, calendários, decorações para a àrvore, meias, luzes, globos de neve, decoração para a mesa, embrulhos especiais, presépios... Juntamente com a selecção de música adequada e uma bebida quente, é a melhor forma de entrar no espírito.

Só ainda não faço ideia é se vou optar pelo tradicional, pelo moderno, se dou um toque rústico. Há Natais em que só quero cores vivas e tradicionais e outros em que me apetecem os dourados, prateados ou brancos mais refinados.

Qual é a vossa decoração preferida?

I can't even tell you guys how busy I have been these days. I haven't done my Christmas decoration yet (Shame on me!) and I think that's the reason why I just can't seem to get in the mood.

To reverse that I did what I always love to do when I need inspiration: Checked Tumblr and Pinterest. Ok, I love a good DIY Christmas project. So many cute things to do! Christmas advent calendars, special trees, decorations, packages, snow globes, socks, nativity scenes... Add good music and a hot drink and I will get into the mood.

 No clue if I want something traditional, modern or even a rustic vibe yet. Every year I end up with something different. What's your favourite?

18. Casual friday

 Hoje, tem chovido a cântaros por aqui mas estou a cruzar os dedos para que S. Pedro nos dê alguma trégua amanhã.

 O mês de Dezembro é também sinónimo de jantares e festas de Natal e amanhã começa a minha saga. Tudo muito bem não fosse o facto de ser um dia preenchidíssimo e não ter tempo para ir a casa trocar-me. 

O meu plano é também a proposta que vos deixo para uma Sexta-feira casual no trabalho. A base: uma saia em brocado e uma camisola preta de pele. A ideia: Torná-los mais casuais com umas botas de cano alto menos formais e mais "grosseiras" (Quem sabe, noutra cor como um castanho escuro.) e depois trocá-las por uns sapatos ou botins de salto alto e uma clutch festiva. Simples, não é?

Para eles, se possível, aproveitar a mesma ideia. Optem por algo fácil e casual que dê para a noite. O camuflado é uma sugestão. Numa peça maior ou num apontamento, o truque é equilibrá-lo com outras peças mais formais. Fórmula simples e fácil para obter um toque especial.

It's December and Christmas dinners season starts this Friday. I won't be having time to come home and change so I'll work with what I'll be wearing. This is what I'm going for. A cute brocade skirt and a black leather top. All I have to do is dress it down with a pair of tall and chunky boots in the morning and pair it with killer heels or ankle boots and a festive clutch after work.

It's the same thought for you boys. Go for something easy, casual but with a unique touch. Camo is a big trend. Mix it with formal garments and you will look special.

Saia-calça in English

As you may guess by the previous post I decided to also blog in English.

Don't get me wrong this isn't me trying to go international. I mean, that's not the main reason why I want to write in English. I used to speak and write a pretty decent English as I worked in a large law firm several years ago and 95% of my work and communication was in this language. In those days I used to think and even dream in Her Majesty The Queen's language. Sometimes it was too much. I lived in Portugal, for god's sake. Why was I thinking in English all the time? But now... It's gone. Gone with the wind and all of those challenging contracts and legal opinions.

It's embarrassing. I question every single word, verb and sentence.  It's not acceptable and I really want to improve it. So why not do it by practising it in my blog? What's to loose? The only thing that may happen is you get pretty good free laughing material and that's not the end of the world.

I also noticed that both my Tumblr and Pinterest have more foreign followers than Portuguese ones. So, Why not include the blog? All of them aim for that luxurious and impeccable elegance and let's face it: Portugal is broke. Portuguese fashionistas dream about Primark, H&M and the "expensive" Zara. How can they go for Celine, Armani and Balenciaga? If I want some readers I have to look abroad! (Yes, it's a bad joke. I know.)

On the other hand, you must be grateful. I could choose French or even German. That would be interesting.

Also don't expect an accurate translation. That simply doesn't work and isn't my goal. All I can do is to promise to strive for improving. Do expect shorter posts (Yes!). I will learn how to be brief but sadly it isn't going to happen in this post.

BTW, Saia-calça is a portuguese word that means divided skirt. Skirt-trousers in a literal translation. Style for both genders.
